How to Source Refractories from India
Sourcing refractories from India means three things — cost competitive with China without quality concession, manufacturer-direct supply chains, and Gujarat's two-day proximity to two of South Asia's busiest container ports (Mundra and Kandla). The Indian refractory industry runs on the same raw materials used globally — bauxite, fireclay, magnesite, silica, andalusite — and applies the same test methods (IS 1528, ASTM C-series, EN 993). What India offers internationally is a structural cost edge: domestic raw-material reserves in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Odisha; lower energy and labour costs than European producers; and a refractories-export ecosystem of forwarders, surveyors and CHA agents concentrated around Mundra and Kandla ports.
firebrickssource.com is a manufacturer-cum-merchant exporter based in Rajkot, Gujarat — two hours by road from Mundra. We supply fired and unfired refractory bricks, insulating fire bricks, basic refractories, acid-resistant linings and precast special shapes. Most of our buyers are first-time importers from India switching from a Chinese supplier on cost, lead-time or quality grounds. The rest are repeat industrial buyers — cement plants, steel mills, glass works and ceramic producers — placing standing orders against an annual lining schedule.
The process below is the one we run for every new export buyer. It usually completes within 30 – 45 days from PO to dispatch for stocked grades.

From specification to FOB dispatch
1. Specification
Send grade, target chemistry (Al₂O₃ / SiO₂ / MgO), application zone, quantity in MT, destination port and Incoterm preference. Drawings welcome for special shapes.
2. Quote & datasheet
Within 24 business hours: full property datasheet aligned to IS / ASTM methods, itemised FOB or CIF quote, lead time, container capacity and packaging plan.
3. Sample & PI
Optional sample dispatch by courier on request (normally chargeable). On approval we issue a proforma invoice; production scheduling begins on receipt of the advance.
4. Production & QC
Batch production at the works, in-process QC against your spec, pre-shipment test certificate covering porosity, bulk density, CCS and RUL. Photos at every stage on request.
5. Packaging & FOB shipment
Pallet packing (1 MT/pallet), shrink-wrap, ISPM-15 stamped timber, container stuffing at our works, customs clearance and FOB / CIF dispatch via Mundra or Kandla.

What to clarify with us up-front
To avoid revision cycles, confirm these five items in your first email. They are the parameters that drive lead time, packaging and Incoterm pricing.
- Application zone — cement kiln transition, ladle back-up, glass regenerator, etc. We use this to confirm the right grade.
- Quantity in MT — drives MOQ band and container fill. See MOQ, packaging & lead time for category-wise figures.
- Incoterm — FOB by default; CIF and EXW available. See Incoterms & shipping terms for what each covers.
- Destination port — needed for CFR/CIF quotes and sea-freight estimation.
