What 60% high-alumina bricks are — and where they fit
60% high-alumina refractory bricks are fired refractory products with a minimum 60% Al₂O₃ (aluminium oxide) content, balanced against SiO₂ and minor oxides. They are manufactured from selected bauxite and high-alumina aggregates, fired to dense ceramic bodies at controlled kiln temperatures. The grade sits in the middle of the high-alumina range — above fireclay and 45% alumina, below 70% and corundum.
The 60% grade exists because it solves a specific procurement problem: it delivers most of the high-temperature performance of premium alumina bricks at a substantially lower cost. With a refractoriness under load (RUL T₀.₅) above 1400 °C, cold crushing strength above 45 MPa and apparent porosity under 22%, it withstands the combined thermal, mechanical and chemical loads found in cement kiln transition zones, steel preheating furnaces, ceramic kiln roofs and ladle back-up linings. It outperforms fireclay bricks in service life by a wide margin where slag attack and load-bearing temperature are the limiting factors.
Compared to fireclay bricks, the 60% grade gives roughly 200 °C of additional service temperature and noticeably better slag resistance. Compared to 70% alumina, it sacrifices about 100 °C of peak temperature and some abrasion resistance — but at materially lower per-tonne cost, which makes it the default choice for buyers replacing fireclay linings without moving into premium-grade economics.

Standard chemistry is BIS / IS-aligned; minor adjustments to the SiO₂ / Al₂O₃ ratio or matrix grain size are possible on indent orders. The grade is regularly exported to cement plants in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and to steel mills in Africa and South Asia.
