Basic refractories are magnesia-based or magnesia-blended refractory bricks engineered for service in chemically basic environments — slags rich in CaO and MgO, where acidic refractories like fireclay and silica would be aggressively eroded. The category includes pure magnesia (MgO ≥ 90%), magnesia-carbon (MgO with 10 – 18% graphite for slag-resistance and thermal-shock performance), magnesia-chrome (MgO-Cr₂O₃ for cement burning zones), and dolomite (CaO-MgO) bricks.
