About this product

What calcium silicate boards are — and where they fit

Calcium silicate insulation boards are pre-formed rigid insulation boards manufactured from a calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) matrix bonded with cellulose-fibre reinforcement. They are non-asbestos, low-density (0.22 – 0.27 g/cm³), exhibit thermal conductivity of about 0.065 W/m·K at 200 °C, and are rated for continuous service from 650 °C (commodity grades) to 1000 °C (premium high-temperature grades). Importantly, this is a board product — not a brick. The page-level adjustments below reflect that: dimensions are board-format, applications are insulation-system rather than hot-face lining, and the spec table is sized for board parameters.

What is calcium silicate board? Calcium silicate board is a structural insulation product used as the back-up layer in refractory lining systems and as the primary insulation in mid-temperature industrial applications. It is rigid (compressive strength ≥ 0.7 MPa), can be field-cut with hand tools, and holds its shape and dimension under typical service. In a refractory lining stack, it is normally located behind the hot-face brick and the IFB layer, immediately adjacent to the steel casing — its job is to reduce the cold-face temperature and the overall heat loss.

The board is also widely used as a stand-alone insulation in petrochemical pipe and vessel insulation, in fire-protection of structural steel beams and columns, and in removable insulation jackets for valves and flanges. Compared to ceramic-fibre blanket, calcium silicate is rigid (does not slump or compress under load) and is non-fibrous (lower handling-time IARC exposure concerns), which is why it is the default back-up choice on most modern lining specifications.

firebrickssource.com supplies calcium silicate boards in standard 1000 × 500 mm format and 25, 50 and 75 mm thicknesses, with custom thicknesses up to 100 mm and pre-cut shapes on request. The product is shipped from Rajkot, Gujarat — Agochar Tech LLP is a refractory bricks manufacturer-cum-merchant exporter from India, and the calcium silicate board supports our refractory lining system specifications. Pair the board with K-23 or K-26 IFB and a high-alumina hot-face for a complete refractory lining design.

Frequently asked

Calcium silicate — questions buyers ask

What is a calcium silicate insulation board?

Calcium silicate boards are pre-formed insulation boards manufactured from a calcium silicate hydrate matrix bonded with cellulose-fibre reinforcement. They are non-asbestos, low-density (0.22 – 0.27 g/cm³), low-conductivity (~0.065 W/m·K at 200 °C) and rated for service from 650 °C to 1000 °C depending on grade.

What is the difference between a calcium silicate board and an IFB?

Insulating fire bricks (IFB) are shaped refractory bricks for direct hot-face or high-temperature back-up use. Calcium silicate is a pre-formed board for back-up insulation behind a refractory hot-face — it is not a brick and is not used at hot-face temperatures above 1000 °C. The two are usually layered together: dense refractory at the hot-face, IFB next, calcium silicate behind that, then the steel shell.

Is calcium silicate board asbestos-free?

Yes. All boards supplied by firebrickssource.com are non-asbestos, manufactured to international occupational health standards. A non-asbestos declaration is shipped with each consignment for customs and OSHA / EU regulatory compliance.

What are the standard board sizes?

Standard sizes are 1000 × 500 mm in thicknesses of 25, 50 and 75 mm. Other thicknesses (up to 100 mm) and custom-cut shapes can be supplied to drawing. Boards are easily field-cut with a fine-toothed saw.

Where are calcium silicate boards used?

Typical applications include back-up insulation behind hot-face IFB or dense refractory, pipe insulation for petrochemical and power-plant lines, vessel and reactor insulation, fire protection of structural steel, and removable insulation jackets.

What is the typical MOQ and packaging?

Standard MOQ is 1 – 2 MT for stocked thicknesses. Boards are shrink-wrapped in moisture-barrier film, edge-protected, on heat-treated wooden pallets. Container loading is typically 8 – 12 MT per 20-foot container depending on board thickness mix.

Do you provide samples and test certificates?

Yes. Samples can be dispatched on request — normally chargeable plus courier. Every batch is tested for bulk density, compressive strength and thermal conductivity; a test certificate and non-asbestos declaration ship with the consignment.
