About this product

What 45 – 50% high-alumina bricks are — and where they fit

45 – 50% high-alumina refractory bricks are fired refractory products with 45 – 50% Al₂O₃ (aluminium oxide), balanced against SiO₂ and minor oxides. They are manufactured from selected bauxite, chamotte and high-alumina aggregates pressed to a dense ceramic body. The grade is the first step of the high-alumina ladder — just above dense fireclay, just below the 60 / 70% workhorse grades.

What are 45 – 50% high-alumina bricks? They are bauxite-bonded fired refractories that deliver the lowest entry cost into the high-alumina family — RUL above 1380 °C, CCS above 40 MPa, apparent porosity below 23%. The grade exists to solve a specific procurement problem: buyers replacing fireclay with a longer-lasting back-up lining without moving up to the price of premium-alumina refractories.

Compared to dense fireclay bricks, 45 – 50% Al₂O₃ gives roughly 100 °C of additional load-bearing temperature and noticeably better slag resistance — at a moderate cost premium. Compared to 60% alumina, it gives up about 50 °C of peak temperature and some abrasion resistance — but is materially cheaper, which keeps it the default choice for cement / lime kiln transition zones and reheating-furnace back-up walls.

firebrickssource.com — Agochar Tech LLP — manufactures and exports the 45 – 50% grade from Rajkot, Gujarat, India in the standard 230 × 114 × 65 mm size, plus arch / wedge variants, taper bricks and custom precast shapes to drawing. The grade is regularly shipped to cement plants in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia, and to steel mills replacing fireclay back-up at end of campaign.

Frequently asked

HA-45/50 — questions buyers ask

What are 45 – 50% high-alumina refractory bricks?

45 – 50% high-alumina bricks are fired refractory products with 45 – 50% Al₂O₃ content, manufactured from selected bauxite and chamotte. They are the entry grade of the high-alumina family — sitting just above dense fireclay and below the 60 / 70% grades.

What is the maximum temperature for 45 – 50% alumina bricks?

45 – 50% high-alumina refractory bricks have a refractoriness under load (RUL T₀.₅) of approximately 1380 °C and a maximum service temperature of around 1450 °C, depending on the specific application, slag and thermal cycling.

Where are 45 – 50% Al₂O₃ refractory bricks used?

Typical applications include cement and lime kiln transition (back-up) zones, reheating furnaces, ceramic tunnel kilns, lime shaft kilns and ladle outer linings. The grade is the most-shipped entry-level high-alumina specification worldwide.

When should I choose 45 – 50% over dense fireclay?

Move from dense fireclay to 45 – 50% high-alumina when peak temperatures exceed about 1400 °C, when slag attack is shortening fireclay life, or when load-bearing creep is a problem. The premium over fireclay is modest and lining life typically doubles.

What is the standard size of 45 – 50% alumina bricks?

The standard rectangular size is 230 × 114 × 65 mm. Custom sizes, arch and wedge shapes, taper bricks and precast components are available on request.

What Incoterms are offered for export shipments?

We typically quote FOB Mundra or FOB Kandla. CIF, CFR and EXW are available on request. Sea-freight rates are confirmed at the time of booking.

Do you provide samples and test certificates?

Yes. Samples can be dispatched on request, normally chargeable. Every batch is tested for apparent porosity, bulk density, cold crushing strength and refractoriness; a test certificate ships with each consignment.
