About this product
What corundum bricks are — and where they fit
Corundum refractory bricks are ultra-high-alumina refractories with at least 95% Al₂O₃ (aluminium oxide), in which the dominant crystalline phase is α-Al₂O₃ (corundum). They are manufactured from fused, sintered or tabular alumina aggregates with a precisely-controlled grain distribution, pressed and fired to a dense, low-porosity ceramic body. This is the apex of the high-alumina ladder — above the 80 – 90% super-duty tier, and above what most refractory buyers ever need to specify.
What is a corundum refractory brick? It is a fired α-Al₂O₃ ceramic with RUL above 1700 °C, CCS above 80 MPa, bulk density above 3.00 g/cm³ and apparent porosity below 18% — properties no fireclay-bonded or bauxite-bonded refractory can approach. The grade is specified only where peak temperature, slag or process chemistry, or lining-life economics push every cheaper option out of contention.
Compared to 80 – 90% super-duty alumina, corundum delivers roughly 100 °C of additional peak temperature, materially better resistance to alkali, vanadium and sulphur attack, and 50 – 100% longer service life in EAF and reformer duty — at a significant price premium. Compared to AZS specialty refractories, corundum is preferred where slag is acidic-to-neutral; AZS is preferred where the duty is glass-contact at very high temperatures with active alkali.
firebrickssource.com — Agochar Tech LLP — manufactures and exports corundum refractory bricks from Rajkot, Gujarat, India in the standard 230 × 114 × 65 mm size and in custom precast shapes — EAF roof rings, ladle slag-line specials, reformer tube supports, ferroalloy hot-spots — to drawing. Corundum is normally manufactured to order with 4 – 6 week lead time for standard chemistry and 6 – 10 weeks for custom shapes. The grade is regularly supplied to integrated steel mills, hydrogen / methanol / ammonia plants and float-glass operators.

Frequently asked
Corundum — questions buyers ask
What is a corundum refractory brick?
Corundum refractory bricks are ultra-high-alumina refractories with ≥ 95% Al₂O₃ content, in which the dominant crystalline phase is α-Al₂O₃ (corundum). They are manufactured from fused, sintered or tabular alumina aggregates fired to a dense ceramic body — the apex of the high-alumina ladder.
What is the maximum temperature for corundum bricks?
Corundum refractory bricks have a refractoriness under load (RUL T₀.₅) of approximately 1700 °C — the highest of any common high-alumina grade — and a maximum service temperature of around 1800 °C, depending on the specific application and slag chemistry.
Where are corundum refractory bricks used?
Typical applications include electric arc furnace (EAF) lining, premium glass-tank zones, petrochemical reformers (hydrogen, methanol, ammonia), ultra-high-duty industrial reactors and severe-service hot-spots in metals and ferroalloy production.
When should I choose corundum over 80 – 90% super-duty alumina?
Move from HA-80/90 to corundum when peak temperatures exceed 1700 °C, when slag or process chemistry is unusually aggressive (alkali, vanadium, sulphur), or when lining life is the deciding economic factor. Corundum carries a significant price premium but is the only practical solution for the most severe-service zones.
What is the standard size of corundum bricks?
The standard rectangular size is 230 × 114 × 65 mm. Corundum is most commonly supplied in custom precast shapes — EAF roof rings, ladle slag-line specials, reformer tube supports — to drawing.
What is the typical lead time for corundum orders?
Corundum is manufactured to order. Typical lead time is 4 – 6 weeks for standard chemistry and stock shapes; 6 – 10 weeks for custom precast shapes. Trial samples are normally available from existing stock.
What Incoterms are offered for export shipments?
We typically quote FOB Mundra or FOB Kandla. CIF, CFR and EXW are available on request. Sea-freight rates are confirmed at the time of booking.
