About this product

What premium corundum refractory bricks are — and where they fit

Premium corundum refractory bricks are high-purity fired refractory products with Al₂O₃ ≥ 99%, manufactured by either the fused or the sintered route. firebrickssource.com — Rajkot, Gujarat, India — supplies premium corundum within the specialty refractories range, exported to glass, EAF-steel and petrochemical reformer constructors worldwide.

Premium corundum is a near-monomineralic alumina refractory brick — the body is composed almost entirely of α-Al₂O₃ (corundum phase) with total impurities held below 1%. SiO₂ is kept below 0.5% and Fe₂O₃ below 0.3% to deliver three deciding properties: an extremely high RUL (≥ 1750 °C), excellent creep resistance under high mechanical load at temperature, and chemical inertness in service environments where any alkali, iron or silica pickup is unacceptable. The grade is supplied in fused (near-zero porosity) or sintered (~15% porosity) variants, chosen to match the duty.

Note: this product is distinct from the corundum bricks in the high-alumina category, which sit at Al₂O₃ ≥ 90 – 95%. The premium corundum grade documented here represents the fused or high-purity sintered route — significantly higher in purity and price, with a different position in the lining design.

firebrickssource.com supplies premium corundum bricks made-to-drawing for EAF roof and side-wall hot-face lining, glass-tank crown construction, petrochemical reformer tube blocks, and kiln furniture for very-high-temperature ceramic firing. The grade is paired with fused-cast AZS bricks in glass tanks and with zirconia bricks for ultra-high-T zones. See the full specialty refractories category. For lower-purity alumina options see high-alumina bricks or step out into acid-resistant bricks for acidic chemistry.

Frequently asked

CRD-99 — questions buyers ask

What is the difference between premium corundum bricks and high-alumina corundum bricks?

Premium corundum refractory bricks (in the specialty refractories category) are produced via the fused or sintered route with Al₂O₃ ≥ 99%, giving a near-monomineralic corundum body with extremely low impurities. High-alumina corundum bricks (in the high-alumina category) are typically pressed-and-sintered with Al₂O₃ ≥ 90 – 95%. The premium route gives higher RUL, better creep resistance and significantly better corrosion resistance at the cost of higher price and lead time.

What is the maximum service temperature?

Premium corundum bricks have a refractoriness under load (RUL T₀.₅) of ≥ 1750 °C and a maximum service temperature of around 1800 °C. They are one of the highest-temperature oxide refractories — only zirconia and a few specialty materials exceed it.

Where are premium corundum bricks used?

Typical applications include electric arc furnace (EAF) hot-face lining, glass tank crown and superstructure, steel ladle slag-line, petrochemical reformer tube blocks, kiln furniture for ceramic firing at > 1700 °C, and any zone where high-purity alumina is required for chemical inertness.

What is the impurity profile?

SiO₂ ≤ 0.5% and Fe₂O₃ ≤ 0.3%, with total impurities below 1%. The low Fe₂O₃ matters in glass-tank service (iron contamination would discolour the glass) and in reformer-tube-block service where catalyst poisoning must be avoided.

Are premium corundum bricks made via the fused or sintered route?

Both routes are available. The fused route gives near-zero porosity and the highest corrosion resistance — used in glass tanks and specialty reactor zones. The sintered route gives slightly higher porosity (~15%) and is used where thermal-shock resistance matters more than absolute corrosion resistance, such as EAF roof and ladle slag-line positions.

What is the typical MOQ?

Premium corundum is project-priced and made-to-drawing for most applications. Stock sizes have MOQ of approximately 2 – 5 MT; custom shapes are quoted per project.

Do you provide samples and test certificates?

Yes. Samples can be dispatched on request — normally chargeable plus courier. Every production batch is tested for Al₂O₃ content, apparent porosity, bulk density and RUL; a test certificate ships with each consignment.
